Look Back or Gaze Forward

Is it better to look back or gaze forward? Which path will bring you to the pinnacle of your life purpose?

Look Back with Wisdom

In my life, I looked back with self-judgment and loathing, never understanding the concept of:

  • Taking a bird’s eye view
  • Determining the errors
  • Understanding the why
  • Imagining alternative behaviors
  • Embracing love and compassion

This simple plan of reviewing with acceptance is the essence of learning from our past choices.

Here is an example from my life.

  • My marriage ended in divorce.
  • The relationship was based on looking for a self-love substitute.
  • Why did I engage in self-destructive behavior?
  • If I knew then what I know now.
  • My choices were necessary for me.

Of course, this is a significant life event. Yet the simplicity of this process breaks it down into digestible bites, releasing the nutrients within.

When I understood the complexity and depth of my suffering, it was much easier to give myself a break. So it’s easier to give others a break, which results in a kinder existence for everyone.

What was the timeline for this example?

a more direct pathThe marriage lasted twenty-three years. Since I didn’t engage in looking back with wisdom, I repeated my behaviors over another twenty-four years. Over the last year, several aha moments resulted in true love and compassion for myself. That’s a total of forty-eight years.

My hope for you is a more direct path toward self-understanding.

Yet, I’ve smiled through it all. The difference today is my smile is filled with joy rather than merely a lifelong coping mechanism.

Gaze Forward with Hope

Before, I used lists and control to examine the past year.

In contrast, my previous twelve months were spent feeling rather than analyzing, which resulted in a culmination of healing that needs no examination. Furthermore, the lists for the coming year also come from feelings.

First, I made a short list of when I feel joy; being in nature, creating, learning, and sharing.

Second, I allowed ideas to flow. These became the core of my New Year plan.

  • I love my body with exercise and nutritious foods
  • Write from my heart
  • Take a chance on painting again
  • Explore my local community
  • Contemplate a physical gift for the world

Third, the first action steps emerged.

The Best Part is

Rather than a list of must-do projects, I have broad ideas that can morph into festive activities by checking in through a daily morning meditative practice.

It’s not about whether it is better to look back or gaze forward. Instead, it’s about exploring within to find your joyful uniqueness. This is the basis for a happy life.

With love and compassion,
Dawn

An End of Year Review

Do you engage in an end of year review? I have been enjoying this exercise with Connie Chapman for three years. She still has space for her Release and Rebirth online class if you want to work with her at your end of the year review.

What Did I Learn About My 2021

As I filled out Connie’s workbook on reviewing my key experiences and turning points, I was amazed how much I accomplished this past year in regards to my growth as a human being and pursuing my life purpose. In typical fashion, I began a list by the people with Spiritual businesses who helped me along the way.

Do you give yourself enough credit for your accomplishments?

If you don’t know, I invite you to consider what you accomplished in 2021. Review your journals, calendar, emails or any other place you record daily information. It’s a great start to understanding the last 12 months of your experience.

Giving Credit to All My Helpers

My year of transformation started by working with Alma Gonzalez in a 1:1 container. She and I checked in daily for six weeks. This experience opened the door for what was to come. You can get to know Alma on her YouTube channel.

The next two healers contributed to my positive change in tandem. One month I would have a house clearing, reading,  or personal shamanic healing with Meredith Johnson, The Healing Hummingbird, LLC. Meredith also hosted weekly free readings on Facebook and YouTube.

The next month, I worked with Miggy Rodriquez Soul Realignment Readings at Infinite Flow Healing LLC. Miggy also offered a series of Zoom classes on understanding my own energy system in her Energy Mastery series. She is currently working on offering this class in 2022.

Working back and forth with Miggy and Meredith was astounding.

How Do I Know What I Need?

I’ve composed a free download that guides you through choosing your own Spiritual Healers. I hope you find this information helpful.

Wishing you the Happiest New Year!

Living the Way I Want to Feel

TheDesireMapPlannerBack in November, my writer friend, Katherine Trnka Turpin, sent me an email about Danielle LaPorte’s Desire Map Planner. The idea intrigued me. I looked into it and decided it was definitely worth trying. I ordered the planner, “The Desire Map Planner – Daily Edition 2016, (Limited Edition)” and it arrived not long ago. I didn’t open the shrink-wrap until this morning during my daily journal time.

Reading the forward blew me away. Every word pulled at my heartstrings, telling me, “Yes, this is my year to live life the way I feel!”

January 1st is rapidly approaching. If you want to change your life in the new year, go to Danielle’s website, read what she has to offer and consider one of the many options to start your Desire Map for the new decade.
