Follow my path as I blog about writing my memoir, weekly exploring a current snippet or revisiting a past life event that changed me forever. Learn how to connect with yourself, removing anger, fear, and worry, replacing them with gratitude, love, and compassion.

My themes explore spirituality, meditation, living organically, giving back, and living a life based on love.

My writing has been crafted through many gifted writers and editors, starting with my talented paternal grandmother. She wrote poetry all her life, especially for the birthdays of her beloved family. During high school in Polk County, Florida, I was blessed with the opportunity to take creative writing from Miss Barbara Clark, where I first explored my writing ability. However, the sciences called my name after high school, where writing requirements were 180 degrees away from creativity.

My formal creative writing education began in 2015, while living in Denver, Colorado when I sat next to someone at a national conference. He offered me the opportunity to study with Lisa Fugard and Windy Lynn Harris at Julie Colvin’s Wellness Writers Retreat in Sedona, Arizona and later in Navarro, Italy. For me, life is sometimes like that, being in the right place at the right time.

I continued studying with Lisa and Windy in their Writing Bootcamps. I also studied character development and scene at Denver’s Lighthouse Writers Workshop. My professional memberships include The Author’s Guild.

During my years in Colorado, I was introduced to Reiki and once I relocated  to my home state of Florida, I pursued accreditation to practice in Florida, where a Massage Therapy license is a requirement. This challenging field of study was helped by achieving a B.S. in Biology from the University of Central Florida in 1980. I continued to use my college training when pursuing my Master Gardener and Native Plant Master status in Arapahoe County, Colorado and now as a Garden Guide and horticulture volunteer at Bok Tower Gardens. My love of history and architecture is satisfied as a docent for Pinewood Estate, also at Bok Tower Gardens. You can learn more about Reiki on my Reiki Dawning website.

My hobbies developed out of my love of the outdoors, history, artistic endeavors, and helping others. Cooking became a passion shortly after high school. It’s a wonderful way to add creative touches to everyday life. Photography allows me to capture the beauty of nature, share photos of my culinary creations, and connect on social media. Gardening brings nature in close everyday as I check on the maturity of vegetables, look for Gulf fritillary butterfly larvae on Maypop vines, or fill the bird feeder, keeping the bright red Northern Cardinals coming back for more. Genealogy combines a love of history and people. No only do I find out about my Southern heritage, but now with DNA availability, I connect with even more people.
